SOLONS HOLD DIALOGUE WITH RUSSIAN YOUTH DELEGATES – MARTINEZ

The House Committee on Youth and Sports Development chaired by Representative Eric Martinez (2nd District, Valenzuela City) recently held a dialogue with the Russian delegation from the 5th ASEAN-Russia Youth Summit.

In his opening remarks, Martinez said through this summit, the Filipino youth will have the opportunity to interact with Russian youth counterparts and understand the significance of people-to-people connectivity in terms of education, cultural exchange, business, and economy.

“The panel gave a compilation of House Bills and other measures pending before the Committee.”

As a token for their visit, the panel gave the Russian delegates a compilation of House Bills and other measures pending before the Committee on Youth and Sports Development, such as the Magna Carta of the Out-of-School Youth, and bills on the Youth Legislators Program, Youth Development and Training Center, and Youth Empowerment.

The panel shared with the Russian delegation that in the previous Congresses, one of the key measures enacted into law for the protection and welfare of the youth was Republic Act (RA) No. 8044, also known as the “Youth in Nation-Building Act”, creating the National Youth Commission.

Another important measure is RA No. 9344 or the “Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act” which provides the child appropriate proceedings, including programs and services for their rehabilitation, reintegration and after care to ensure their normal growth and development.

National Youth Commission (NYC) Chairman and CEO Undersecretary Ryan Enriquez thanked Martinez and the committee for its support to the Filipino youth.

‘The youth of both countries have common concerns.”

Roman Kamaev, Deputy Head of Russian Federal Agency Youth Affairs, likewise expressed their appreciation to Martinez for the meeting and for sharing information about the youth bills. He said as the youth of both countries have common concerns, they can share information and best practices.
