DPWH INSTALLS NEW BOOSTER PUMP IN SAMPALOC, MANILA – VILLAR

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed a new booster pump at the Estero de Calubcob in Manila’s Sampaloc district that aims to minimize flooding.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, DPWH NCR Director Ador Canlas said the flood management project has been done ahead of its set completion date in May 2020 to mitigate flooding along various barangays in the city.

“DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office prioritized the improvement of the new flood mitigation system.”

“DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office prioritized the improvement of the new flood mitigation system with catchment area of 39.52 hectares to protect residents in Barangays 472, 475, and 505,” Canlas said.

Started in June 2019, the P65-million drainage improvement at the Estero de Calubcob increases the water holding capacity as it serves as an outfall for all local drainages connected to the Piy Margal Drainage Main in Sampaloc Manila.

“The timely completion of projects like these is really important in protecting not just lives but also properties as we experience more frequent flooding in Metro Manila during rainy season,” said Villar.
