Before she became a successful Bollywood actress, Deepika Padukone had to struggle with personal issues and depression.

But she found a way to be a voice for others and eventually found true love.

This is her story.

Deepika initially aspired to be like her father who is an amazing badminton player. But she realized modeling is what she really wanted to do.

So she quit school after 12th grade.

“My parents had a lot of issues with it back then,” she tells Born Realist.

After rising to fame as a model, she decided to shift to acting.

By focusing on her acting skills, she landed a role with Shahrukh Khan in her first Bollywood movie.

It became a hit leading to other successful films in both Bollywood and Hollywood.

“Everyone has talent,” Deepika says. “What’s rare is the courage to follow it to the dark places it leads.”

Despite her successful acting career, her relationships were not.

“I woke up one morning feeling directionless, I didn’t know where to go, I didn’t know what to do,” she recalls.

In 2014, Deepika was diagnosed with clinical depression.

A friend of hers had the same condition. When her friend committed suicide, it gave Deepika the courage to speak openly about depression and raise awareness about it.

During her battle with this illness, Ranveer Singh was always there for her.

This made Deepika realize he is the perfect man for her!

They got married in November 2018.

“He is very real and sensitive,” Deepika shares. “He is a man who is not afraid to cry and I love that about him.”

"The bravest thing you can do is to continue to live when you felt like quitting"
