If the world is about to end or a global war is about to begin, are you prepared to survive?
Some people have preparation for these kinds of scenarios and are investing in underground survival bunkers.
“The whole world is concerned, everybody has gut-level feelings and they’re all feeling something’s about to happen. Some are concerned about North Korea, others are concerned about an economic collapse, others are concerned about World War III,” VIVOS Founder and CEO Robert Vicino tells Weird Wild World.
“There’s threats from the sun, a coronal mass ejection, there’s threats of asteroids hitting Earth and there’s near misses almost every week now, so our buyers are people that are aware, they are not paranoid, they’re aware, they are highly intelligent, they’re well educated, they read a lot,” he adds.
VIVOS is a company specializing in doomsday shelters.
It owns Xpoint, one of the world’s largest collection of underground doomsday bunkers located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, in the United States.
Xpoint is a former military camp that stretches 18 square miles or about three-fourths the size of Manhattan. The bunkers are partitioned into individual units that are built to shelter between 10 and 20 people each.
“This place is huge, the bunker we are in is 22 hundred square feet, that’s bigger than most houses around the world,” explains Vicino.
Each unit is fully equipped with modern conveniences like refrigerators, televisions, paintings, and even LEDs designed to replicate windows. There is enough room to keep a year’s supply of groceries.
The concrete bunkers were originally built in 1942 to house Army personnel. The underground bunkers can withstand 500,000 pound internal blasts. The facility was later sold by the military.
Each unit costs $25,000 or about P1.3M for a lease of 99 years.
“To not have this and to have a back-up plan for mankind, to have an insurance policy is crazy,” Vicino explains.
“At the cost that we’re able to do this $25,000 per bunker. It’s nothing, so it’s crazy not to, it’s nothing more than life assurance.”
People have started buying bunkers. Since November 2016, sales of the units have gone up to 300 per cent.
“This project will accommodate somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 people,” Vicino notes. “When it’s completed, it is a city, it’s gonna be the largest survival community on the planet.”
