Repair cafés are popping up all over the United States.
These are places where you can bring broken household items, and experts will help you fix them for free.
“We brought a garden tiller,” one customer tells We Need This. “I did all I could at home, but now I’m coming to the experts.”
Companies are deliberately designing products to have short lifespans. For their business to thrive, they make you buy new ones more often.
Unfortunately, the education system doesn’t teach basic life skills. As a result, people tend to just throw broken things away instead of fixing them, which is both wasteful and expensive.
It’s a good thing this repair café encourages the idea that sometimes, it is way better just to fix things.
People are teaming up to fix stuff instead of throwing it away.
