Scrunchies! The hair accessory was popular during the 1980s and 1990s and is now making a comeback.
Have you ever wondered who invented it?
Ronnie Revson is credited for coming up with an elastic hair tie covered in fabric. She was looking for a hair tie that would hold her hair back without damaging it. Typical hair elastics contain metals and plastics that strain and pull at hair. So Revson created what was originally called the ‘Scunci’. It was patented in 1986.
The hair accessory became a hit! In The Know Presents shows it appeared on sitcoms, in music videos, and even on the movie screen. Eventually, scrunchies left the fashion spotlight. By the mid-1990s, it had basically disappeared. Only female athletes were seen wearing them.
But by the 2010s, Scrunchies started making a comeback. A new generation of female adolescents accepted the scrunchie as part of cool counterculture and are widely popular again.
Believe it or not, scrunchies are set to make a major comeback 🙌
