Japan is known to have the longest life expectancy in the world.
The World Health Organization says an average Japanese is expected to live until 84 years old.
But the record will soon be broken.
According to the World Economic Forum, Spain will overtake Japan by 2040.
By that year, Spaniards can expect to live until they are 85 years old.
What’s the secret?
The typical Spanish diet is thought to play a significant role in healthy ageing.
Spaniards regularly consume fruits, nuts, vegetables, olive oil and cereals.
They take fish and poultry in moderate amounts.
Their diet has a low intake of dairy products, red meat, processed meat and sweets.
Spaniards drink wine in moderation and take it usually with food.
Studies have found that having this kind of diet lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke.
It’s also interesting to study the diet of people living in Singapore, Switzerland and Portugal.
These countries, along with Japan and Spain, are in the top five list of the world’s longest life expectancy.
The Philippines rank 123rd in the World Life Expectancy.
Filipinos are expected to live until they are 69 years old.
There’s a difference of 15 years compared to the Japanese and Spanish people!
So should Filipinos eat the same diet?
