DIZON FACES CA GRILLING ON JUNE 3

Newly designated Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon is scheduled to appear before the Commission on Appointments (CA) Committee on Transportation on June 3 at 10:00 a.m., a day after Congress resumes session.

“The CA’s Committee on Transportation has set the meeting to consider Secretary Dizon’s ad interim appointment,” announced Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel, CA Assistant Minority Leader.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Dizon as DOTr head on February 21, following the resignation of former Secretary Jaime Bautista due to health reasons.

Dizon previously served as Presidential Adviser on Flagship Programs and Projects and led the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) under the Duterte administration.

Meanwhile, Pimentel said the CA’s Committee on Constitutional Commissions and Offices will meet on June 4 at 10:00 a.m. to deliberate on the ad interim appointments of the following:

·        Noli Pipo, Commissioner, Commission on Elections (Comelec), replacing Marlon Casquejo

·        Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal, Commissioner, Comelec, replacing Socorro Inting

·        Luis Meinrado Pañgulayan, Commissioner, Civil Service Commission (CSC), replacing Aileen Lourdes Lizada

·        Douglas Michael Mallillin, Commissioner, Commission on Audit (COA), replacing Roland Pondoc

“The public is encouraged to submit to the CA secretariat any information, written reports, or sworn/notarized complaints regarding the appointees.”

The 25-member CA, composed of 12 members each from the House and Senate and chaired by the Senate President as ex officio presiding officer, is constitutionally mandated to confirm or reject key presidential appointments based on merit and integrity.
