TAN, DICT DISCUSS SAMAR’S FREE WIFI FOR ALL PROJECT

In a move to accelerate the digital transformation of the province, Governor Sharee Ann Tan met with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Regional Director Melvyn Carlo Barroa and consultants to discuss the rollout of the Free Wi-Fi for All Project in Samar.

The meeting centered on expanding internet connectivity across communities—especially in remote and underserved areas—as a foundational step toward developing smart and inclusive communities in the province.

The collaboration will strengthen public access to digital services in education, health, e-governance, and disaster response.

“Access to information and digital services empowers our people,” Tan said.

“By working closely with DICT, we are taking decisive steps to bridge the digital divide and future-proof our province.”

In line with Samar’s push toward smarter governance and disaster resilience, the Core Team of the Provincial Government of Samar recently visited the Baguio City Command Center for a benchmarking activity.

The site visit aimed to study Baguio’s integrated command and control systems in public safety, emergency response, and real-time monitoring.

Learnings from the benchmarking will inform Samar’s plans to establish similar command centers in major urban hubs.

The initiative is envisioned to enhance inter-agency coordination, emergency response, and data-driven governance across the province.

These twin initiatives highlight Tan’s commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive development, responsive governance, and community resilience.
