ANGARA: 20K NEW TEACHING POSTS GET DBM BUDGET

Education Secretary Sonny Angara announced the approval of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) of the funding for the additional 20,000 teaching positions to boost the country’s public education system.

The positions will be distributed to all regions and will include Teacher I, Special Needs Education Teacher (SNET), and Special Science Teacher I.

Based on the updated school directories, enrollment data and validated teacher gaps, the highest number of positions was allocated to Region IV-A with 2,655 items, followed by Region III with 2,152, and Region VII with 1,774.

The 20,000 new positions were opened as DepEd is boosting the deployment of teachers. In less than eight months, the Department has reduced unfilled positions from

72,964 in August 2024 to 38,862 in Abril 2025. The current national filling rate of position is now at 96.03%, a marked increase from 94.78% in 2022.

To hasten the deployment, the DBM Regional Offices are directly sending Notice of Organization, Staffing, and Classification Action (NOSCAs) to Schools Division Offices (SDOs) for all positions from Kindergarten, Elementary, and Senior High School (SHS), including Implementing Units (IUs) for Junior High School (JHS).
