MANILA SOLON PUSHES FOR DOLPHY AS NATIONAL ARTIST

A day before the 13th death anniversary of Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon, Sr., a Manileño, Manila Representative Joel Chua filed House Resolution 41 seeking the nomination of the beloved “Philippines’ King of Comedy” for National Artist.

Chua’s resolution cited Dolphy’s multitudes of achievements, awards, and legacy.

The veteran legislator was particular about following the nomination process provided in the Honors Code of the Philippines and its implementing guidelines.

The resolution tasks the House committees on Creative Industries and Basic Education & Culture to conduct hearings and other steps to formally nominate Dolphy to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

“We need to seek the inputs of Dolphy’s family and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who had suggested Dolphy for the National Artist honor.”

The seasoned lawmaker also specifically cited the need and courtesy to seek the inputs of Dolphy’s family and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who had suggested Dolphy for the National Artist honor.

Chua said Dolphy deserves to be National Artist because of his “magnificent body of work and championing of Filipino values for all generations of Filipinos.”
