The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Quezon City government will improve active transport infrastructure and establish green spaces as part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.‘s directive of creating commuter-focused facilities to ensure safety and mobility of commuters, cyclists and pedestrians.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said expanding and improving bike lanes, PUV stops, and pedestrian lanes underscore the government’s commitment of building a network of commuter-oriented public transport system.
“We really have to change our mindset.”
“We really have to do it. Sinabi na mismo ng Pangulo komyuter naman ang isipin natin. We really have to change our mindset,” Dizon said during his inspection of bike lanes in QC Circle along with Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and House Transportation Committee Chair Franz Pumaren.
Part of the upgrades of active transport infrastructure in Quezon City will be the expansion of bike lanes, construction of PUV stops and the development of a directional island at the intersection of East Avenue and Elliptical Road.
“They feel safe, may greenery.”
“This really sets the standard for our commuters, pedestrians and bikers—they feel safe, may greenery,” the transport chief said.
“Gagayahin natin ito sa ibang lugar,” the transport head concluded.
