The Department of Transportation (DOTr) directed the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, to provide immediate assistance to passengers who were injured following the reported malfunction of an escalator in FPJ Station recently.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said LRMC must always prioritize the reliability of LRT-1’s facilities to ensure the safety and welfare of commuters.
One female passenger was brought to the hospital for check-ups, and was discharged within two hours.
Meanwhile, six other passengers opted to go home after receiving first aid at the FPJ station.
As of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the affected escalator has been repaired and cleared for safe public use.
The DOTr assures the public that it will continue working closely with LRMC to prevent similar incidents happening in the future.
