Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco joined First Lady Liza Marcos and City of San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora in celebrating the Linggo ng Kasuotang Pilipino as part of the city’s 2025 Tourism Month festivities.
In her message, Frasco lauded the City Government of San Juan for spearheading the event, describing it as a meaningful initiative that uplifts Filipino artistry.
“All LGUs in the Philippines should emulate such an admirable program for it promotes our culture as Filipinos.”
“Ipinapaabot ko ang aking papuri sa Lungsod ng San Juan para sa ganito napakamakabuluhang proyekto. In fact, I was telling Mayor earlier, that all LGUs in the Philippines should emulate such an admirable program for it promotes our culture as Filipinos,” the tourism chief said.
As the nation marks Tourism Month, she urged Filipinos to draw inspiration from the celebration and to take pride in their cultural heritage.
“As we celebrate Tourism Month, let this exhibit remind us that our traditional clothing is more than just fashion, and rather a symbol of our pride as Filipinos,” Frasco said.
Among the highlights of the event was the “Best Kasuotang Pilipino” fashion show and contest, where 18 contestants showcased the elegance and diversity of traditional attire from different regions of the country.
Adding to the vibrance, San Juaneños performed songs and dances that reflected the city’s deep connection to culture, artistry, and community spirit.
Another centerpiece of the program was the launch of a special exhibit featuring traditional Filipino costumes worn by iconic figures in politics, sports, pageantry, and entertainment. Also on display are wardrobe pieces from Maria Clara at Ibarra, which aim to rekindle appreciation for Philippine history and heritage among younger generations.
“What began as a simple celebration has grown into a major cultural event.”
Zamora expressed his gratitude for the strong support of the national government and the DOT in advancing cultural and tourism initiatives, noting that what began as a simple celebration has grown into a major cultural event with the presence of the First Lady and the tourism chief.
The DOT, together with the San Juan City Government, and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), have been collaborating in projects such as the forthcoming Pinaglabanan Tourist Center and the nationwide implementation of the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence training program.
Also joining the celebration were Lone District of San Juan Congresswoman Ysabel Zamora-Jornada; San Juan City Vice Mayor Angelo Agcaoili; GMA Entertainment Television Officer-in-Charge Cherryl Ching-Sy; and Caring Keri Foundation Founder Keri Zamora.
