Senator Kiko Pangilinan officially taken his oath as a member of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET), the constitutional body tasked with resolving election contests involving members of the Senate.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 24, with Senior Associate Justice Marivic Leonen administering the oath.
“Opisyal na tayong naging miyembro ng Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET), ang constitutional body na humahawak sa mga electoral protest sa Senado.”
“Ngayong umaga, opisyal na tayong naging miyembro ng Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET), ang constitutional body na humahawak sa mga electoral protest sa Senado,” Pangilinan said in a social media post.
This marks the third time the veteran legislator has served as part of the nine-member tribunal, which plays a crucial role in maintaining public trust in the country’s electoral system by adjudicating electoral protests filed against duly proclaimed senators.
The seasoned lawmaker served as SET member from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2004 and again, from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2013.
The seasoned lawmaker served as SET member from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2004 and again, from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2013.
“Mula 2001–2004 at 2010–2013, at ngayon sa ating ikatlong termino bilang miyembro, patuloy nating dadalhin ang karanasan at integridad para tiyakin ang tiwala ng publiko sa ating electoral system,” the senator said.
Now in his fourth term in the Senate, Pangilinan brings to the SET decades of experience in lawmaking, public service, and advocacy for democratic institutions.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa mga kasama sa oath-taking: Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Marivic Leonen, Justices Henri Jean Paul Inting at Ramon Paul Hernando, Atty. Eleanor Anuncacion, Atty. Luis Jose Geronimo, at sa mga kapwa SET members,” he said.
The other SET members were Senators Pia Cayetano, Alan Peter Cayetano, Robinhood Padilla (incumbent member), and JV Ejercito (outgoing member).
