In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen border protection and intensify the government’s anti-drug campaign, the Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), intercepted three unclaimed parcels containing suspected illegal drugs with a total estimated value of ₱8,839,600 at a warehouse facility in Pasay City.
The parcels, initially declared as electronic equipment and garments, were flagged during x-ray screening and subsequently subjected to K-9 sweeping, which yielded positive indications.
A thorough physical inspection revealed that one parcel concealed 992 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, while the two other parcels contained a combined 1,396 grams of high-grade marijuana, locally known as kush.
BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno commended the vigilance of the personnel involved.
We remain steadfast in protecting our borders and shielding our communities from the harms of illegal drugs.”
“The Bureau of Customs is determined to uncover and stop every attempt by drug traffickers to sneak illegal substances into our country. We remain steadfast in protecting our borders and shielding our communities from the harms of illegal drugs,” Nepomuceno said.
The seized illegal drugs were secured and placed under the custody of BOC-NAIA at the Collector’s Corral pending confirmatory laboratory testing and further investigation.
The case constitutes violations of Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), particularly Section 1400 (Misdeclaration), Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation and Exportation), and Section 117 (Regulated Importation and Exportation), in relation to Section 1113 (f), as well as Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as amended).
“BOC-NAIA continues to uphold its role as a frontline defense against smuggling and illicit drug activities.”
“Through strict enforcement and close inter-agency collaboration, BOC-NAIA continues to uphold its role as a frontline defense against smuggling and illicit drug activities at the country’s main air gateway,” District Collector Alexandra Lumontad highlighted.
This operation reinforces the Bureau’s unwavering commitment to enforce customs and anti-drug laws in support of the national government’s campaign to protect the Filipino public.
