MMDA BRINGS ‘BAYANIHAN SA BARANGAY’ TO NAVOTAS

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) brought its Bayanihan sa Barangay Project in Navotas City, which was held at Tangos National High School.

This is part of the agency’s commitment to addressing environmental cleanliness under the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The Bayanihan sa Barangay program is a community-based initiative that promotes cleanliness and disaster preparedness by fostering community participation and encouraging residents to take an active role in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of their community.

According to MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes, beyond one-time clean-up drives, the program promotes long-term behavioral change and community ownership of public spaces.

“The MMDA is not only responsible for traffic management but we also focus on improving cleanliness and sanitation by conducting clean-up drives, declogging drainage systems, and ensuring proper waste management,” Artes stated.

“We encourage not just the students but also residents to volunteer, help clean their surroundings, and sustain environmental and traffic discipline.”

“We encourage not just the students but also residents to volunteer, help clean their surroundings, and sustain environmental and traffic discipline,” the MMDA chief added.

Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Vice Mayor Tito Sanchez expressed their gratitude for the agency’s service and assistance in cleaning up the city. They also acknowledged the opportunity to show the students the spirit of bayanihan.

“It is important to show students in each barangay the proper management of garbage.”

“It is important to show students in each barangay the proper management of garbage as it is not only for environmental cleanliness but also to ensure the health safety of every citizen in our community,” Tiangco said.

Personnel from various MMDA offices conducted flushing, cleaning, misting, declogging, desilting and repair of drainage, trimming and pruning of trees, sidewalk clearing, painting of yellow boxes, and posting of traffic signage in the vicinity of the school.

MMDA also conducted orientation sessions to provide information to the students on solid waste management, anti-smoking, anti-littering, and disaster preparedness.

Residents in the area prepared their garbage that could be exchanged for grocery items at the MMDA Mobile Materials Recovery Facility, which is part of the agency’s Recyclables Mo, Palit Grocery Ko project.
