Senator Bong Go, adopted son of Maragondon, Cavite, visited the municipality to spearhead efforts aimed at uplifting the lives of senior high school and college students.
During his visit, Go reaffirmed his commitment to advancing programs that directly benefit the poor and vulnerable sectors of society.
In the relief efforts held at the municipal gym, the veteran legislator, together with his Malasakit Team provided snacks, vitamins, shirts, fans, pens, basketballs, and volleyballs to 2,930 beneficiaries consisting of Senior High School and College students.
The seasoned lawmaker also worked closely with Mayor Lawrence Arca and the local government to extend additional financial assistance to the beneficiaries.
Adding a personal touch to the event, Go also greeted several birthday celebrators in attendance and handed them small birthday gifts.
“Sa lahat po ng may kaarawan ngayon, God bless you po and may you have many more birthdays to come po!” he said.
As Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth, Go has tirelessly supported education-related initiatives.
The enactment of Republic Act No. 12077, or the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act, reflects Go’s commitment to protecting Filipinos’ dignity during crises. The law, which he co-sponsored and co-authored, provides temporary financial relief for students with outstanding loans during calamities.
He has also co-authored and co-sponsored critical pieces of legislation, such as RA 11510, which institutionalizes the Alternative Learning System to reach underserved students, and RA 12006, or the “Free College Entrance Examinations Act,” which waives entrance fees for top-performing students.
Further demonstrating his commitment to education, Go co-authored and co-sponsored RA 11997, known as the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, which increases the teaching supplies allowance for public school teachers, recognizing their essential role in nation-building and RA 11984, the No Permit, No Exam Prohibition Act, which protects students from being barred from examinations due to unpaid tuition or other school fees–ensuring that no learner is left behind because of financial constraints.
“Visit the Malasakit Center in Cavite, located at the Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City.”
In addition to the support he has already provided, Go, who is the Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, extended an offer for medical assistance to any resident facing health issues. He urged them to visit the Malasakit Center in Cavite, located at the Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City.
The Malasakit Center serves as a one-stop shop, bringing together various agencies under one roof to help impoverished patients with their medical expenses. Since its launch in 2018 and its institutionalization under RA 11463, which Go principally sponsored and authored in 2019, the 167 Malasakit Centers have assisted over 17 million indigent patients nationwide.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” Go concluded.
