In support of the initiative of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to nourish the grassroots, the UAAP tapped University of the Philippines Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol as the league’s new representative to the national sports association for basketball.
Through the recommendation of the UAAP Board of Managing Directors (BMD) signed by Season 88 president Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP of University of Santo Tomas, Perasol will be one of 17 members on the SBP board under the leadership of new president Ricky Vargas.
“I thank the BMD for the trust they put in me and I am honored to do my part in enacting the vision the SBP has for basketball in the Philippines,” said Perasol, who succeeds Far Eastern University’s Mark Molina in the post.
“What we’re already doing in the UAAP, from men’s to women’s basketball all the way to high school basketball, gusto nating makita rin sa lahat ng liga. And of course, we want to keep improving what we’re already doing.”
Perasol, along with UP alumnus Eric Altamirano for the NBTC and Benilde athletic director Dax Castellano for the NCAA, will take care of the interests of the Schools Sector in Philippine basketball.

“This new SBP board is a healthy mix of wisdom-filled veterans and passionate young leaders who share a common purpose – to build a stronger, more unified future for Philippine basketball,” said Vargas in SBP’s official statement.
“We’re setting the foundation for the next generation of sports leaders to continue the growth and excellence that Filipino basketball is known for.”
Before serving as UP’s head honcho for sports since 2023, Perasol was the Fighting Maroons’ basketball program head and coach from 2016-22. Prior to that, he also called the shots for Ateneo for three years following a strong stint as PBA tactician with Air21 and Coca-Cola from 2005-12.
