MANILA PUBLIC LIBRARIES LINK UP WITH ACADEME

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso led the signing of the Manila Academic–Public Library Educational Consortium, an initiative designed to link the city’s public libraries with major academic institutions.

The ceremony marked the formal creation of a unified framework for literacy programs and shared educational services in the capital.

The Consortium brings together the Manila City Library, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Universidad de Manila, Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, and the Schools Division Office–Manila.

Domagoso said the partnership is designed to make learning resources more accessible by having the member institutions cooperate and share what they have.

According to the Consortium’s objectives, member institutions will collaborate on library programs, training, technical services such as cataloguing, and collective approaches to developing their collections.

The initiative also aims to broaden access to books, journals, digital media, and other learning materials for students, faculty, researchers, and community learners.

A shared online catalog and integrated library system will be developed to connect the collections of all participating libraries.

Joint training sessions, workshops, and professional development programs for library staff are also part of the initial commitments.

The signing ceremony also included the adoption of the Consortium Agreement and By-Laws and the launch of its short- and long-term goals.

Member institutions also began aligning inter-library cooperation standards to support citywide literacy and research efforts.
