ANIMAL BITE CENTERS IN ALL PUBLIC HOSPITALS PUSHED

Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. filed House Bill No. 5752 mandating the establishment of Animal Bite Treatment Centers (ABTC) in all national and local government hospitals.

Under HB 5752, each ABTC to be established shall be adequately staffed by qualified medical professionals that are certified and trained to administer animal bite treatment and conduct rabies prophylaxis in accordance with the guidelines set by the Department of Health (DOH).

“Each ABTC to be established shall be adequately staffed by qualified medical professionals that are certified and trained to administer animal bite treatment and conduct rabies prophylaxis.”

Funding for ABTCs in national hospitals shall be included in the budget for DOH under the General Appropriations Act (GAA), while the budget for the ABTCs in local government hospitals shall come from the annual budget of the respective LGUs.

Lazatin has always advocated for responsible pet ownership and pro-animal welfare policies.

It can be recalled that during Lazatin’s time as Angeles City Mayor, he established the Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter — the first ‘no-kill’ animal shelter in the city.

The Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter also puts their rescued animals up for adoption by members of the community.
