Ormocanons had a wonderful time welcoming the Christmas season with joy at the Ormoc City Plaza recently.
Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez and 4th District of Leyte Representative Richard Gomez led the event organized by the Local Government Unit of Ormoc.

Two non-competing floats were from the City Officials and by the stars of the movie Salvageland, with a special appearance by veteran actor, Mon Confiado. The remaining eight competing floats glided through the city, captivating the crowd with beautiful lights and unique designs.
Andrea’s Tinkerbell bested all entries, winning P700,000; Little Mermaid by BL Events secured second place with P600,000; and Mhaey Tanael’s Aladdin clinched third place, taking home P500,000.
A jam-packed program also featured the performances of the Dancing Ormoc Legacy Program, led by the DNPower Dance. Guided by Artistic Director and DNPower Dance founder Douglas Nierras, the performers delivered a stunning number before the event shifted to one of the night’s most anticipated highlights.
The lighting of the majestic Ormoc City Holiday Tree and Year-End Decorations was among the most memorable parts of the celebration, bringing delight to Ormocanons and guests.
“We really tried to dress up our plaza since this is the place of convergence for everyone, especially this Christmas season,” Torres-Gomez said.
Industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue’s creation drew attention and admiration for its unique structure, inspired by the Enchanted Mangrove—representing the rich biodiversity of sea, earth, and sky as a symbol of the Tree of Life.
Just as the mangrove stands firmly rooted despite the harshest tides, Ormocanons remain strong and grounded by love for God, community, and the environment.
“The Christmas tree showcases our environment as a central theme because we are all stewards of nature, and we continue to see how climate change affects us.”

A grand fireworks display painted the sky, and Ormocanons’ hearts were full as they were serenaded by beloved Sessionistas Juris, Princess Velasco, Nyoy Volante, Kean Cipriano, Duncan Ramos, and Ice Seguerra, whose performances resonated with the enchanting spirit of Christmas.
