WORLD BANK FUNDS BOHOL WATER, SANITATION PROJECT

The Provincial Government of Bohol welcomed a delegation from the World Bank and the Department of Finance (DOF), led by World Bank Group Executive Director Marcos Chiliatto, to the Capitol recently.

The visit forms part of preparatory work for the proposed Accelerated Water and Sanitation Project in Selected Areas (AWSPSA), funded by the World Bank.

“We will continue coordinating with national agencies and the World Bank to ensure the project benefits Boholanos.”

Governor Aris Aumentado expressed full support for the AWSPSA’s objectives and pledged to continue coordinating with national agencies and the World Bank to ensure the project benefits Boholanos through resilient, equitable, and sustainable water and sanitation services.

With Bohol being a major tourist destination in the country, Aumentado said the project will address the increasing demand for potable water supply in the province.

“We will work on having the project approved soon so that it can be implemented by next year.”

For his part, Chiliatto thanked the governor for welcoming the delegation to Bohol and assured that they will work on having the project approved soon so that it can be implemented by next year.

The AWSPSA aims to increase access to safely managed water and sanitation services and to strengthen the performance of local water service providers.

The project includes infrastructure investments, NRW (non-revenue water) reduction, rehabilitation and expansion of distribution systems, and capacity-building for utilities.

For Bohol specifically, the project’s plans include investments for the Loboc cluster, including development of a bulk water supply system sourced from the Loboc River, with a target production of 60,000 cubic meters per day.

It will also include upgrades to existing distribution networks to address water scarcity and improve service reliability for both households and businesses.
