Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has given an ultimatum to Manfel Cargo Shipping Corp. to finish the repair of the Navotas Coastal Dike by February.
Dizon also warned the company to ensure that the dike will not have substandard construction.
He said a demand letter will be sent by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to compel the company to repair the more than 50-meter portion of the dike that was destroyed when it got hit by one of their ships last year.

“Responsibilidad nila ‘yun, sinira nila, ayusin nila. In fact, ‘yung High Tone [na nakasira ng ibang bahagi ng dike], natapos na nila ‘yung gawa, pero itong Manfel hindi pa tinatapos,” Dizon revealed during a recent Pandesal Forum where he was one of the guests.
Reports reveal that Manfel only paid 10% forcing the contractor to stop working.
“Hindi pwedeng itigil ang trabaho dahil lang sa hindi pagbabayad ng kumpanya sa kanilang contractor,” he said.
If they failed to repair the dike in February, Dizon said cases will be filed against them through the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).
