Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Monday urged his colleagues in the House of Representatives to confront long-standing political reforms head-on, including the proposed anti-political dynasty law, saying genuine change requires courage, honesty, and sincerity.
In his speech at the resumption of House session, Dy said the legislature must be willing to tackle difficult and sensitive issues if it is serious about reform.
“Kaya’t hindi tayo uurong sa mahihirap na usapin. Bubuksan natin ang mga diskusyong matagal nang iniiwasan—kabilang na ang anti-political dynasty bill,” Dy said.
Acknowledging the personal and political sensitivities surrounding the issue, Dy said the matter affects even his own family.
“Bubuksan natin ang mga diskusyong matagal nang iniiwasan—kabilang na ang anti-political dynasty bill.”
“Alam kong ito’y sensitibo at personal para sa ilan—maging sa aking sariling pamilya,” he said.
The Speaker stressed that reform must be anchored on fairness and equal opportunity for all Filipinos.
“Ngunit kung seryoso tayo sa reporma, kung ang hangad natin ay patas na pagkakataon para sa lahat, we must have the courage to talk about it—honestly, openly and with sincerity,” Dy said.
He framed the anti-dynasty discussion as part of a broader effort to address systemic failures that have long burdened the public.
“We must be honest enough to confront the shortcomings of the past. Accountability is not an act of vengeance—it is an act of justice,” Dy said.
“Hindi uusad ang bansa sa pamamagitan ng paglimot, kundi sa pamamagitan ng pagsasaayos ng mga sistemang matagal nang nagbigay pasakit sa ating mga mamamayan,” he added.
Dy said confronting entrenched political practices is essential to rebuilding public trust and strengthening democratic institutions.
Dy, together with Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, is the author of House Bill 6771 or the Anti Political Dynasty Act. The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform is set to begin hearings on the Anti-Political Dynasty Law on Tuesday.
