The Department of Education (DepEd) highlighted its expanding partnership with Khan Academy Philippines in improving learner performance and teacher support using free digital learning platform for public schools nationwide.
According to DepEd, the partnership has reached more than 711,000 learner-beneficiaries ang 12,153 teachers in over 2,700 public schools.
Khan Academy Philippines initially had only 30 schools when the partnership began. The program continues to expand nationwide giving software access and teacher training without any cost from the government.
In recognition of its contribution to learning recovery, DepEd awarded the leaders of Khan Academy Philippines—Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine (President and Chief Executive Officer), Myrish Cadapan-Antonio (Chief Operating Officer and Trustee), and Denise Fabella (Executive Director)— as DepEd Heroes.
“Noong nagsimula kami sa Khan Academy Philippines, nasa iilang dosenang paaralan pa lamang ito. Ngayon, libo-libong paaralan na ang sinusuportahan nito sa buong bansa, na may libreng tools at libreng training para sa mga guro, nang walang dagdag na gastos sa pamahalaan,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
“Nababawasan nito ang bigat sa mga paaralan at mas napapadali ang pagpapatupad ng learning recovery sa malawakang saklaw.”

The education chief explained the platform gives teachers real-time data in tracking the progress of students that helps in easily identifying learning gaps and instruction without additional administrative work or need for resources.
“Tayo ’yung unang recipient sa buong mundo. Libre nilang binigay sa ating mga guro. So I hope our teachers here, our principals here will have the same zeal, same excitement, the same determination to get these tools out to our learners in the field,” Angara added.
According to DepEd, the mastery-based learning system of Khan Academy gives way for students to learn at their own phase and makes it easier to implement remediation, enrichment, and independent learning in a regular class or in after-school programs.
DepEd also noted that the partnership strengthened the ability of teachers through nationwide onboarding and training, giving them classroom-ready digital tools based on the curriculum and learning priorities of the agency.
According to Acuña-Sunshine, they are focused on breaking the barriers for learners to receive quality education.
“For our country to thrive, the best education must be democratized and must be made available for all.”

“That’s why we at Khan Academy Philippines are driven to provide a free, world-class education to everyone, everywhere, ensuring that every Filipino child has access to basic literacy and numeracy,” Acuña-Sunshine concluded.
