The Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA), in coordination with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, successfully intercepted approximately ₱102 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” concealed in chopping boards during an operation at NAIA Terminal 1, resulting in the arrest of a Malaysian passenger.
The passenger, who arrived from Malaysia, was flagged after suspicious images were detected during x-ray screening of their baggage, prompting authorities to conduct a 100% physical examination.
This led to the discovery of approximately 15,024 grams of shabu concealed within two boxes declared as chopping boards, with an estimated standard value of ₱102,163,200.

Following the discovery, the passenger was immediately apprehended and turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), together with the confiscated illegal substances, for inquest proceedings.
Charges are being prepared for violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno reaffirmed the Bureau’s intensified border protection efforts in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., emphasizing the agency’s firm commitment to preventing the entry of illegal drugs into the country.
