IE Convention 2026: Toward a Brighter Borealis, held on March 22, 2026, at the Globe Tower in Bonifacio Global City, served as a vital compass for a new generation of industrial engineers. Organized by the Industrial Management Engineering Society (IMES) of De La Salle University – Manila, the event provided a dynamic platform for attendees to explore the expanding frontiers of the discipline, moving beyond the shop floor into high-stakes sectors such as global finance and digital ecosystems.
The convention drew aspiring leaders and innovators committed to turning the paradox of choice into a meaningful professional path. The success of the gathering was rooted in its role as a catalyst for community immersion, proving that navigating today’s massive systemic expansion is a collective marathon rather than a solo sprint.
Eminent speakers provided a strategic roadmap for the event. Sec. Fortunato de la Peña, former DOST Secretary, delivered a keynote on national policy and the macro-system perspective. He encouraged participants to view themselves as the connector of ecosystems, embracing engineering for public impact and stewardship. Following this, Ms. Baby Lim, managing director of Summit Consultancy, discussed the evolution of traditional IE. She shared real-world insights into modernization efforts, emphasizing that simulation, logistics modeling, and human-machine systems form the bedrock of modern operations.
The afternoon focused on the human-centric aspects of the field. Mr. Rommel Regino, COO of Altius Inspiro, Inc., captivated the audience with a discussion on optimizing global customer experience through AI and operational excellence. He highlighted the necessity of the human touch and the principle of doing more with less to maintain meaningful impact. Rounding out the plenary sessions, Engr. Rodel Adviso, Founding Chairman of the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE), discussed the critical role of professional organizations. His insights illuminated a guiding horizon for students, showing how diverse specializations like data science, ergonomics, and logistics converge to solve intricate global problems.
