GAB BACKS US TRAINING OF BOXER WELJON MINDORO

The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Rated No. 2 in the Middleweight Division (160 lbs) and national athlete Weljon “Triggerman” Mindoro made a courtesy visit to Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera at the GAB Central Office in Makati City.

Also present were Boxing and Other Contact Sports Division Assistant Chief Jan Kenner So, boxing manager Orlando Borcelango, boxing manager-promoter Gerry Balmes, boxing trainer Jovill Marayan, and professional boxers Romer Pinili and Eviden Borcelango.

Mindoro has an impressive boxing record of 17 bouts, highlighted by 16 knockouts, 0 losses, and 1 draw.

Mindoro, a proud native of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, has achieved an impressive boxing record of 17 bouts, highlighted by 16 knockouts, 0 losses, and 1 draw. 

With his sights set on a world title, the boxer will depart for Florida, USA, for a year-long training camp to hone his skills for the global stage.

Mindoro also represented the Philippines as a member of the national boxing team in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in 2025, which were held in Thailand. 

Pursuant to the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Assessment of the Senate Committee on Sports, the courtesy call also provided an avenue for Mindoro and his team to discuss challenges, raise suggestions, and share insights on how the Philippine government can further strengthen its support for professional athletes who are also members of the national team competing in major international sporting events.

“GAB’s goal is to produce more Filipino world champions.”

Rivera concluded the meeting by reiterating GAB’s goal of producing more Filipino world champions and expressing full support for Mindoro’s campaign abroad, underscoring confidence in his potential to excel and contribute to the country’s pursuit of world titles.
