LACSON SAYS OBAN IS FIT FOR NSA POST

Newly appointed National Security Adviser Eduardo Oban Jr. is fit for the post, as was his predecessor Eduardo Año, Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson said.

Lacson cited their service records as four-star generals – including serving as Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff – as among their qualifications for the job.

“Both retired 4-star generals are imminently qualified for the job as NSA.”

“Both retired 4-star generals are imminently qualified for the job as NSA. That being said, I wish Gen Ed Año well as he returns to private life as I wish him good health, even as I trust that Gen Ed Oban can equally perform the duties and responsibilities as NSA,” said Lacson, who had served in the military and has chaired the Senate committee on national defense.

Malacanang recently announced the appointment of Oban as NSA to replace Año, who reports said decided to retire from public service to prioritize his health and wellbeing.

As NSA, Oban will head the National Security Council, the principal advisory body to the President on national security and foreign policy matters.
