Senator Bong Go’s team extended assistance to fire victims from Barangay 76-A in Davao City and Baganga, Davao Oriental, reaffirming his commitment to supporting disaster-stricken communities and helping them recover.
The assistance activity benefited a total of 19 affected families—16 from Barangay 76-A and three from Baganga.
“Pangalagaan natin ang buhay na ibinigay sa atin ng Panginoon.”
“Ang gamit ay nabibili, ang pera ay kikitain, subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nakakabili ng buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Importante ay buhay tayo kaya pangalagaan natin ang buhay na ibinigay sa atin ng Panginoon,” Go emphasized in a video message.
Through a housing assistance program, affected families received much-needed support to begin rebuilding their homes.
The program provides financial assistance to fire victims, including aid for partially damaged houses and greater support for those whose homes were totally destroyed.
The veteran legislator’s team distributed grocery packs, shirts, pens and balls to help uplift the spirits of the affected families.
A raffle was also conducted, where selected beneficiaries received additional support, including a watch and a mobile phone.
The seasoned lawmaker also highlighted Republic Act No. 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. The law strengthens fire prevention and response capabilities nationwide by modernizing equipment, increasing personnel, and enhancing training programs to ensure communities are better protected against fire-related incidents.
“The Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act has a critical role in providing secure and dignified temporary shelters for evacuees during disasters.”
Additionally, the senator underscored the importance of RA 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates the establishment of safe and well-equipped evacuation centers in every city and municipality. As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law, Go emphasized its critical role in providing secure and dignified temporary shelters for evacuees during disasters.
“Magtulungan lang po tayo. Sino ba namang magtutulungan kung hindi tayo, mga kapwa nating Pilipino. Nandito lang ako na handang magserbisyo sa inyo dahil ‘yan po ang aking bisyo, ang magserbisyo,” the senator concluded, reassuring the victims of his continued support and commitment to their recovery.
He continues to advocate for disaster preparedness, efficient response mechanisms, and long-term recovery solutions to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by calamities.
