PRC JOINS WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joined the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance followed the theme “United in Humanity,” meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also served as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.

Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country.”

“The Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.

Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the world’s largest humanitarian network.

“Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country.”

“The Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,” Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, PRC Secretary General, stressed.

The PRC commits its adherence to this year’s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.
