MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Entertainment meets environmental activism in Make and Mend!, a lifestyle reality show produced by Junior Communication students from the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
Operating under the student-led M&M Studios, the series serves as the cohort’s second major television project for their CA3288: TV Production course, under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Faye Martel Abugan.
Rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, the competition takes a firm stand for eco-conscious fashion.
The show challenges three designers to construct the ultimate sustainable garment using only secondhand materials and green practices. Guided by the central theme, “Peak Hours: What It Takes to Get There,” the designers must prove that high fashion doesn’t have to harm the planet.
Executing a full three-part reality series is a massive undertaking, especially while juggling the demanding schedules of full-time students. However, the crew at M&M Studios transformed their conflicting academic timetables into a catalyst for innovation.
Driven by their production tagline, “Creativity is better when mixed,” the team utilized collaborative problem-solving to successfully bring the show from the drawing board to the screen.
By seamlessly weaving pressing environmental advocacy into an engaging fashion competition, these UST students showcase how collaborative creativity can spark meaningful, real-world change.
