The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), marked the turnover of four (4) Volunteer Emergency Response Vehicles (VERVs), at the PRC National Headquarters, strengthening its nationwide emergency response network and volunteer mobilization capacity.
These VERVs are part of a nationwide emergency response network of the PRC designed for rapid humanitarian action.
More than emergency vehicles, VERVs form part of a response network envisioned by PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon to ensure that volunteers, equipment, and humanitarian aid can immediately reach disaster-affected communities.
Strategically deployed in regional hubs, the vehicles allow the PRC to quickly transport RC143 volunteers without worrying about their transportation costs, mobilize additional responders when needed, and deliver critical supplies during emergencies.

Each VERV can carry up to two tons of cargo or transport 20 personnel. The units are equipped with blinkers, a public address system, GPS device, first aid kits, tow hooks, and a winch capable of pulling stranded vehicles and clearing debris during disasters. They are also used to transport emergency equipment, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid to affected areas.
The four newly turned-over units are part of the ongoing expansion of the ICRC-supported VERV network, bringing its total support to 22 vehicles. Combined with four PRC-funded units, the organization now operates 26 VERVs nationwide.
With this deployment, Mindanao is fully covered by the VERV network. The latest units will be stationed in Negros Occidental, North Cotabato, and the PRC Subic Warehouse.

With VERVs strategically deployed across the country, the PRC continues to strengthen its capacity to mobilize volunteers and deliver timely, life-saving humanitarian assistance wherever disasters strike.
