Residents of Laguna may now register for services ahead of the opening of the province’s first-ever eye center, which will begin operations this July at the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial District Hospital in Calamba City.
Registration is open from June 1, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as the provincial government prepares to roll out free eye care services, including prescription and reading glasses.
The initiative, led by Governor Sol Aragones, aims to improve access to affordable and specialized eye care for residents, especially senior citizens, low-income patients, and individuals suffering from vision problems such as cataracts.
“Free basic prescription eyeglasses and reading glasses will be provided to qualified patients during the initial phase of the program.”
Alongside consultations and cataract related treatment, the provincial government announced that free basic prescription eyeglasses and reading glasses will be provided to qualified patients during the initial phase of the program.
Aragones emphasized that the project is only the beginning of broader efforts to strengthen eye health services in the province.
“Ito muna po ang kaya natin sa atin pagsisimula pero patuloy po tayo hahanap ng paraan para ang iba pa na dapat gamutin sa mata ay gawin din sa eye center,” the lady governor said.
“The facility is designed to bring essential eye care services closer to communities that previously had limited access to ophthalmology care.”
The eye center will initially focus on cataract related cases, which remain one of the leading causes of preventable blindness, particularly among patients who cannot afford surgery or specialized treatment. Provincial officials said the facility is designed to bring essential eye care services closer to communities that previously had limited access to ophthalmology care.
Once fully operational, the eye center is expected to provide a range of services, including eye screening and consultation, cataract assessment and treatment, free prescription and reading glasses, and preventive eye care services.
The establishment of the facility marks a significant step in improving Laguna’s healthcare system by expanding access to essential vision care and reducing the burden of untreated eye conditions among vulnerable sectors.
