OSPITAL NG MAYNILA TO CLOSE EMERGENCY ROOM

The emergency room of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center will be temporarily closed from May 24 to June 1, 2026 to undergo critical repairs and upgrades to its facilities.

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso announced the closure during his Talk to the People broadcast.

Domagoso said the city government spent weeks trying to find a way to renovate the ER without suspending operations—but consistently concluded it was not safe to do so.

“Isara natin saglit.”

“Napagpasyahan na ng inyong lingkod to bite the bullet. Isara natin saglit,” the mayor said, saying the closure was the necessary and responsible decision.

“Patients requiring emergency care will be redirected to six other LGU-run public hospitals while the emergency room undergoes renovation.”

According to City Health Officer Dr. Grace Padilla, patients requiring emergency care will be redirected to six other LGU-run public hospitals while the emergency room undergoes renovation.

The city has pre-positioned ambulances and set up a tent area outside the hospital to accommodate incoming patients during the one-week closure period.

Domagoso pledged that round-the-clock work would be carried out to ensure the emergency room reopens on June 1 as committed.
