AUMENTADO LEADS BOHOL’S AIDS CANDLELIGHT MEMORIAL

The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Governor Aris Aumentado, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), spearheaded the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2026 recently at the Capitol Grounds, gathering health workers, government officials, advocates, program implementers, and community members.

Anchored on the theme “Light the Legacy: Remember. Advance. Act. Keeping the Light Alive,” the observance served as a tribute to individuals who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS and strengthened public awareness and support for people living with the disease.

“Awareness, empathy, and kindness are vital in saving lives and preserving dignity.”

Governor Aris Aumentado underscored the importance of eliminating stigma and fostering a more compassionate and supportive environment for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, stressing that awareness, empathy, and kindness are vital in saving lives and preserving dignity.

Provincial Health Office Officer-in-Charge Dr. Fruserma Mary Uy emphasized unity, compassion, and continued awareness in addressing HIV/AIDS concerns in the community.

“Persistent barriers such as stigma, discrimination, and fear discourage testing and treatment.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Chito Pobar highlighted persistent barriers such as stigma, discrimination, and fear that discourage testing and treatment, sharing insights from his years of experience in HIV care and patient management.

Participants joined the candlelighting ceremony and prayer led by Paulino Torrejas, symbolizing remembrance, solidarity, hope, and continued commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Aligned with the Capitol’s Strategic Governance Roadmap, PGBh reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare initiatives, promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, and fostering a more compassionate and supportive community in the province, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
