SEL EXEMPTS FOREIGN ESPORTS PLAYERS FROM DRUG TEST

Representatives from the Philippine Esports Organization (PESO) made a courtesy visit to the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to discuss the implementation of GAB Resolution No. 2026-13, a policy initiative aimed at strengthening and revitalizing the Philippine esports industry.

The Resolution introduces the Special Esports License (SEL), which exempts foreign professional esports players from participating in short-term tournaments from the mandatory drug testing requirement previously imposed for the issuance of a professional GAB license.

Valid for a specific tournament period not exceeding 30 days, the policy seeks to streamline procedures for international esports participants and organizers while remaining compliant with existing laws and regulations.

During the meeting, both GAB and PESO underscored the importance of fostering a more efficient and globally competitive esports environment in the Philippines, particularly in attracting international tournaments and promoting sports tourism.

Chairman Francis Rivera emphasized that the initiative forms part of GAB’s continuing efforts to adopt progressive yet legally sound approaches for the development of esports in the country, with minimal red tape and greater private sector participation.
