The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) underscored its leadership in regional energy regulation as it presented key outcomes from the 17th ASEAN Energy Regulatory Network (AERN) Meeting and its associated activities during the 44th Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) held at the Department of Energy (DOE) and chaired by Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella.
The current AERN Chair, ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan, reported on the progress of AERN initiatives, joined by Executive Director Nancy Aurora Fajardo and Planning and Public Information Service (PPIS) Director Heiddi Venecia Barrozo.
“The ERC will ensure that our frameworks remain responsive to emerging challenges while advancing a secure, sustainable, and consumer-focused energy future for the (ASEAN) region.”
“The ERC remains committed to steering stronger regulatory collaboration across ASEAN, ensuring that our frameworks remain responsive to emerging challenges while advancing a secure, sustainable, and consumer-focused energy future for the region,” Juan said.
The ERC highlighted progress in priority AERN activities and key deliverables, including efforts toward the operationalisation of the Enhanced ASEAN Power Grid (APG) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and establishment of the ASEAN School of Regulation (ASR).
The SOME is the operating arm of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM). It acts as a consultative committee to promote and oversee the various cooperation activities envisaged in the framework agreed by ASEAN Member States.
The AMEM, on the other hand, which consists of ASEAN Ministers responsible for energy, is the highest policy making body in energy sector cooperation.
