OSPITAL NG MAYNILA COMPLETES 3RD ANGIOPLASTY

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso announced that the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center has successfully completed its third angioplasty procedure.

The procedure was performed on a 67-year-old male patient from the City of Manila who paid nothing for an operation that costs up to ₱1.5 million in private hospitals.

Domagoso, speaking through his “Talk to the People” Facebook livestream, said the patient’s cost should have amounted to nearly ₱975,000—but walked out paying zero.

“Magkano po binayaran ng pasyente natin? Zero. Literally zero. Walang binayaran. Salamat sa taxpayers ng siyudad,” the mayor said.

He described angioplasty as a minimally invasive procedure that opens blocked arteries in the heart without the need for open-heart surgery, allowing patients to recover and return home to their families within a matter of days.

“Kapag barado po yung puso at hindi pa kayo due for bypass, at kaya naman ng angioplasty, ‘yan po ‘yung procedure,” Domagoso said.

He stressed that the procedure—which private hospitals price between ₱800,000 and ₱1.5 million—is being offered at the city’s public hospital at no cost to patients, and that this will continue.

“Wala pong bayad ang angioplasty [sa ating pampublikong ospital], at tuloy-tuloy po ‘yan.”

He reflected on what the achievement means for ordinary Manileños, drawing from his own experience growing up poor.

“Maraming mahirap ang namamatay nang hindi nabibigyan ng patas na pagkakataon, at least pagkakataon man lamang, kasi kung nandiyan ang mga doktor, gamit, gamot, mabigyan siya ng patas na laban.”

The third angioplasty follows the hospital’s first two successful procedures in March 2026, which themselves came after the city opened its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in September 2025 and began with free angiogram procedures.

Domagoso said he had set aside nearly ₱25 million in standby funds for equipment purchase and maintenance to sustain the program.

He gave special recognition to the medical team behind the procedure, led by Manila City Health Officer Dr. Grace Padilla, along with the interventional cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and radtech staff.
