QC GOV’T LAUNCHES HELPLINE FOR SOLAR PANEL USERS

Quezon City is making it easier for homes, condominiums, and commercial establishments to install rooftop solar panels through QC Helpline 122, giving QCitizens free expert guidance to lower electricity costs, shift to clean energy, and help build a more sustainable city.

As electricity costs continue to rise, rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems offer property owners a practical way to reduce electricity bills, lessen dependence on the power grid, and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Through Helpline 122, QCitizens can now access free technical guidance from licensed electrical engineers of the City Engineering Department before investing in a solar energy system.

By simply dialing 122, residents and business owners can consult licensed electrical engineers on the appropriate size of a solar panel system based on their electricity consumption, technical requirements for safe and efficient installation, accredited solar service providers listed by the Department of Energy, and permit requirements through the Department of the Building Official.

Mayor Joy Belmonte said the initiative aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to solar adoption by making reliable expert advice accessible to every QCitizen.

“Quezon City has enormous potential to harness solar energy, but many QCitizens and business owners are unsure where to start.”

“Through Helpline 122, our licensed electrical engineers are ready to guide them through the process, answer their technical questions, and help them avoid fraudulent or unlicensed installers. By making solar more accessible today, we are also investing in a cleaner, more resilient, and more sustainable Quezon City for future generations,” the lady mayor stressed.

The initiative builds on the city’s broader commitment to renewable energy. Quezon City has already solarized seven City Hall buildings, three city government hospitals, and 25 public schools, generating more than ₱8 million in electricity savings from January to June 2026 alone. These savings allow the city government to redirect more resources toward essential public services while reducing its carbon footprint.

The city’s long-term potential is even greater. Based on Quezon City’s Solar Penetration and Potential Market Demand in Buildings Dashboard, the city’s estimated electricity consumption in 2025 is 5,787 GWh. If all viable rooftops were equipped with solar panels, they could generate an estimated 16,098.28 GWh of electricity—nearly three times the city’s projected annual demand.

A study by Thinking Machines Lab, commissioned by C40 Cities, also estimates that widespread rooftop solar adoption across Quezon City could generate up to ₱40.651 billion in savings by 2035, highlighting the enormous economic and environmental benefits of accelerating the transition to clean energy.

Whether for a home, condominium, or commercial establishment, QC Helpline 122 is ready to connect QCitizens with licensed engineers who can guide them through every step of their solar journey.

Call 122 before installing your solar panels to receive trusted technical advice, understand the requirements, and make informed decisions that can lower your electricity bills while helping build a cleaner, more energy-secure, and climate-resilient Quezon City.
