The Senate approved on final reading legislative measures which seeks to renew the franchises of two electric companies in the Visayas.
With 17 affirmative votes, no negative vote, and no abstention, the Senate approved House Bill No. 7639 which seeks to grant the renewal of the 25-year franchise of the Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (VECO) to distribute electric power to end-users in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, and Naga, and the municipalities of Minglanilla, San Fernando, Consolacion, and Liloan in Cebu.
Also approved via a 17-0-0 vote was House Bill No. 4746 which seeks to grant the renewal of the 25-year franchise of Bohol Light Company, Inc. to distribute electric power to end-users in Tagbiliran City.
“We need to maintain reliable and affordable power distribution across the Visayas.”
Senator Raffy Tulfo who sponsored both measures, emphasized the need to maintain reliable and affordable power distribution across the Visayas.
Tulfo cited both companies’ proven track record and said that through these measures, customers of VECO and Bohol Light Company Inc. in Cebu and Tagbilaran would continue to receive quality service.
