Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante Jr. extended P3 million in one-time educational assistance, providing P2,000 each to 1,500 senior high school students in his district, using savings from his congressional salary over a one-year period.
The distribution was held to help students cover transportation fares, school supplies, projects and other education-related expenses.
The entire P3 million came from Abante’s accumulated salary as congressman from July 2025 to July 2026.
For the veteran legislator, the initiative was a fulfillment of his commitment to return part of what he earned in public office to the people he serves.
He said the assistance was intended to ease, even in a modest way, the expenses shouldered by students and their families in keeping their children in school.
The program also underscored his approach to public service—that the benefits of holding public office should ultimately find their way back to the people, particularly those who need assistance with basic needs such as education.
By setting aside his accumulated salary for the program, Abante directed the money toward young people in the district and their education.
The educational assistance was part of Abante’s continuing service to residents of Manila’s sixth district, with students among the sectors receiving support.
He said helping young people pursue their studies was also a way of investing in the district’s future, as families contend with the daily costs of sending their children to school.
A total of 1,500 senior high school students benefited from the initiative, accounting for the full P3 million set aside from Abante’s salary.
“Isang araw ng tulong at pag-asa para sa mga kabataan ng Distrito Sais!” he said.
The program carried a simple message: money earned while serving the district was being returned to its people, this time to help students continue their education.
