The City of Manila sustained its status as a trillion-peso economy in 2025, with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) estimating its Gross Domestic Product at ₱1.06 trillion, ranking it third among all cities in the Philippines behind Quezon City and Makati City.
The data, released by the PSA recently, was disseminated during the 2025 Provincial Product Accounts Data Dissemination and Opening Ceremony of the National Statistics Month for the National Capital Region, where Manila was confirmed to account for approximately 14.6 percent of the entire NCR economy.
Manila is a services-based economy, with the services sector accounting for 77.4 percent of the city’s total GDP, while the industry sector contributes 22.6 percent.
The top three industries with the highest percentage share to the city’s GDP are wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles at 22 percent, manufacturing at 18.5 percent, and public administration and defense, including compulsory social security, at 15.4 percent.
Among the fastest-growing industries in the city in 2025, transportation and storage led with a 10.0 percent growth rate, followed by human health and social work activities at 9.4 percent and education at 6.4 percent.
The results are consistent with the sustained investments of the administration of Domagoso in healthcare and education under its Minimum Basic Needs platform.
The per capita GDP of the City of Manila was estimated at ₱565,047 in 2025, with Manila among the Highly Urbanized Cities in NCR that posted a per capita GDP higher than the estimated regional value.
The top contributors to the city’s economic growth in percentage points were public administration and defense, including compulsory social security, at 0.5 percentage points, followed by transportation and storage at 0.4 percentage points, and human health and social work activities at 0.24 percentage points.
Domagoso, who assumed office in July 2025 upon returning as the capital city’s Mayor, has made healthcare, education, housing, and jobs the cornerstones of his administration’s Minimum Basic Needs platform.
“Kaya sa aking pagbabalik noong Hulyo 2025, nakatuon tayo sa ating Minimum Basic Needs—healthcare, education, housing at jobs,” he said.
