MANILA’S 1ST PUBLIC EV CHARGING STATION NOW OPEN

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso inaugurated Manila City Hall’s first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station, marking a milestone in the city’s push toward sustainable and accessible mobility for residents and commuters.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, formalized the partnership between the City Government of Manila and ACMobility, the EV infrastructure arm of the AC Enterprises group, on the deployment of public EV charging infrastructure within the city.

The charging station, located at Manila City Hall, is equipped with one 30-kilowatt DC charger and one 22-kilowatt AC charger, providing both fast and standard charging options to any electric vehicle owner without a private charging facility.

Domagoso said the project reflects the city government’s commitment to planning ahead and leveraging private-sector partnerships to address the emerging needs of Manila’s motorists.

“Here is the proof where the government is looking at the future, looking at future problems.”

“Here is the proof where the government is looking at the future, looking at future problems, and there will be,” the mayor said. “But in the absence of resources, or with limited resources, we work with the private sector.”

He said the new facility addresses a key concern among EV owners: range anxiety in an urban setting with limited public charging infrastructure.

“Hindi ka na kakabahan na, baka mamaya, ma-traffic ako, wala akong charging station’,” Domagoso said, adding that unlike charging points in private establishments, the Manila City Hall station is open to the general public.

ACMobility is set to expand its footprint in Manila before the end of 2026, with additional charging stations planned at Bagong Ospital ng Maynila and Sta. Ana Hospital.

ACMobility, which operates more than 200 EV charging hub locations and over 600 charge points nationwide, is set to expand its footprint in Manila before the end of 2026, with additional charging stations planned at Bagong Ospital ng Maynila and Sta. Ana Hospital.

Domagoso thanked the ACMobility team by name during the ceremony, calling the collaboration a model for how local government and the private sector can work together to build infrastructure for an electrified future.

Vice Mayor Chi Atienza joined him in leading the ribbon-cutting alongside ACMobility representatives.
