Recognizing the invaluable role of the elderly in shaping families and communities, the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office spearheaded the Elderly Filipino Week celebration at the Capitol Gym, gathering senior citizens across Northern Samar for a day of wellness, charity and knowledge sharing on their rights and privileges.
Commissioner Gloria Mercado of the National Commission of Senior Citizens, and United Senior Citizens Partylist Representative Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay served as the honored guests of the celebration who both underscored the importance of recognizing the contributions of senior citizens through programs and initiatives that uphold their welfare and benefit their sector.
Anchored on the theme, “Nakatatandang Filipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan,” the celebration recognized the invaluable contributions of the elderly to society.

In his message delivered by Board Member Leonida Laodeño, Governor Harris Ongchuan emphasized that much of what society takes pride in today is made possible by the sacrifices and contributions of the older generation.
Vice Governor Clarence Dato likewise highlighted the wisdom of senior citizens in guiding younger generations, while 2nd District Representative Edwin Ongchuan underscored how their wisdom serves as a foundation for building resilient communities. A mark of their support to the welfare of the elderly, Board Member Don Abalon, and Board Member Gina Silvano graced the occasion, along with Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer Jenny Darish.

Beyond recognizing the value and contribution of the elderly, the celebration also became a wellness platform through the Kuratsa Dance, the Search for Super Lolo and Super Lola 2026 and the distribution of medicines and supplies.
Under the leadership of Governor Ongchuan, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar continues to strengthen programs and initiatives that promote the welfare, protection, and meaningful participation of senior citizens in the community, ensuring that their rights are upheld and their contributions are valued.
