ABANTE FILES BILLS VS ONLINE, OFF-SITE GAMBLING

In an effort to put an end to online and off-site gambling including e-sabong, Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante Jr. filed House Bill No. 1876 seeking to prohibit the same and providing penalties thereof.

The former chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and one of the lead panels of the Quad Committee in the 19th Congress, Abante also filed HB No. 1877 prohibiting the advertisement and promotion of online gambling-related content.

“Ang nakataya po dito ay hindi lang pera—ang nakataya dito ang kaluluwa ng ating mga kababayan.”

“Ang nakataya po dito ay hindi lang pera—ang nakataya dito ang kaluluwa ng ating mga kababayan,” the veteran legislator said.

“Ang sinusugal natin ay ang kinabukasan ng kabataan. You simply cannot put a price tag on either,” the seasoned lawmaker stressed.

The veteran legislator also filed House Resolution No. 53 which calls for an inquiry in aid of legislation on the abduction, disappearance, and supposed killings of the “missing sabungeros”.

“Naghain tayo ng mga panukala upang harangin ang pagsusugal, gayun na rin ang isang resolusyon upang simulan ang pagdinig patungkol sa ‘missing sabungeros’,” he said.

“This is a modern-day horror story.”

“This is a modern-day horror story. You can no longer call this a harmless vice when it ends with bodies dumped in our lakes and families mourning the loss of their loved one,” Abante concluded.
