ALAN CAYETANO SENDS AID TO CEBU EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

The office of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano continued to extend assistance to families affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and parts of the Visayas recently.

From October 7 to 10, Cayetano’s team carried out weeklong relief operations in Bogo City, Medellin, Daanbantayan, San Remigio, Tabuelan, and Tabogon.

The team distributed relief supplies and provided temporary shelters to families displaced by the disaster. The assistance included collapsible tents, folding beds, blankets, and hot meals with bottled water across the affected towns.

In some areas, such as Tabogon, residents continue to struggle with limited access to clean water due to damaged pipelines.

Many residents in Northern Cebu remain in makeshift shelters as aftershocks continue to shake the region. Fear of structural collapse has prevented families from returning to their homes.

“Aftershocks have also triggered mass hysteria and mental distress among survivors.”

According to the veteran legislator’s team, aftershocks have also triggered mass hysteria and mental distress among survivors. The team is assessing the ground situation to determine the need for medical and psychosocial assistance.

In partnership with the Civil-Military Operations (CMO) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the seasoned lawmaker’s office established logistical support to transport relief and non-relief items to the heavily affected areas of Northern Cebu.

More assistance is set to be distributed in the coming days, including additional outdoor tents, folding beds, sleeping blankets, hot meals, and bottled water for heavily affected communities.

In his Facebook live broadcast recently, the seasoned lawmaker encouraged Filipinos to continue praying for those affected by earthquakes, including the 7.4 and 6.8 magnitude ones that hit Mindanao.

“Pag-pray po natin [ang mga apektado.] ”

“Sa ating mga kababayan, prayer moves mountains. Pag-pray po natin [ang mga apektado.] Let’s all be very sensitive po whether bagyo ‘yun or earthquake, kasi nga, hindi natin alam ‘yung nangyayari sa kanila. Let’s pray for many parts of Mindanao na naramdaman yung matinding earthquake,” the senator said.

Cayetano reaffirmed his commitment to stand with disaster-hit communities through sustained relief efforts and close coordination with local leaders and the military.
