Mayor Januario Garde of Luna, Apayao wants to provide more aid to the town’s poor students.
Garde made the decision following his meeting with several officials of various schools in their municipality.
“The scholarship program of the LGU mostly provides assistance to high school students and those studying at the tertiary level, leaving nothing for the younger learners except for some donations.”
The mayor noted that the scholarship program of the LGU mostly provides assistance to high school students and those studying at the tertiary level, leaving nothing for the younger learners except for some donations.
With this, he explained that he and the LGU are looking at possibilities of giving some aid to the younger learners, even in the form of school supplies to help and encourage them to study.
“Learners will have more difficulties if they do not have the basic materials, like pens and notebooks, that they need in order to learn,” Garde said.
He asked the educators to furnish him a copy of the list of all learners in Luna from Kinder to High School for him to assess how much budget maybe needed for the plan to be implemented.
The teacher, principals, and SDS of DepEd Apayao committed to provide the list to Garde and expressed appreciation to the plan of Garde.
