BAGUIO CITY SENDS P2M CASH AID TO QUAKE-HIT CEBU

The City of Baguio has extended ₱2 million in financial aid to four priority areas in northern Cebu, each receiving ₱500,000 to support rebuilding efforts following the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, accompanied by Baguio City Councilor Atty. Jose Molintas, personally turned over the checks to authorized representatives of Bogo City and the municipalities of Daanbantayan, San Remigio, and Medellin during a visit to the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Mayor Magalong also handed Governor Pamela Baricuatro a ₱125,000 check from the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) — a coalition of incumbent mayors from across the Philippines.

Magalong also handed Governor Pamela Baricuatro a ₱125,000 check from the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) — a coalition of incumbent mayors from across the Philippines dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and resilience in local governance. The group aims to build empowered LGUs that prioritize public welfare over politics and power.

Baricuatro thanked Magalong and the people of Baguio, as well as the Mayors for Good Governance for their solidarity and for showing support to the rehabilitation and recovery efforts of the Provincial Government.

“Nag-usap-usap ‘yung mga Mayors for Good Governance to pool some resources para may maibigay na tulong.”

“Kasi isa sa mga very strong supporters namin, strong advocate ng good governance ay si Governor Pam. So, nag-usap-usap yung mga Mayors for Good Governance to pool some resources para may maibigay na tulong. Maliit man pero something very meaningful because it comes from the heart, for the people of Cebu,” Magalong said.

A lead convenor of M4GG alongside Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, Mayor Magalong expressed enthusiasm over the initiative of Governor Baricuatro to establish a similar alliance among provincial leaders — the Governors for Good Governance.

“Isa ‘yan sa mga magandang balita na natanggap na namin — that no less than Governor Pam is initiating the establishment of a Governors for Good Governance,” he shared, adding that talks are now underway among governors interested in joining the movement.

“We’re looking at Baguio as the possible venue for the initial meeting of the Governors for Good Governance. Hopefully in two to three weeks ma-schedule na ito,” Magalong added.
